Migrant’s Nightmare: A Political Ping-Pong

The issue of migrants crossing at the United States southern border has continued to be a hot button regardless of which political party is at the helm of the White House. Currently, the Biden administration is struggling to keep up with the drastic rise of immigrants and asylum seekers at the country’s southern border.

Upon Biden’s arrival at the White House, his administration immediately lifted the suspension of his predecessor, former President Donald Trump’s executive order. In addition, Trump had initiated a Title 42 policy that allowed for migrant’s deportation to be expedited to avoid spreading the Covid-19 virus, reported BBC. At the same time, the move empowered immigration officials to separate and deport migrants parents without their children. At the time, Democrats who relied heavily on its vast Hispanic voting block expressed their anger at Trump’s administration.

However, since Biden and the Democrats had pledged to grant 11 million undocumented immigrants legal status, the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol have experienced a high tick of immigrant border crossing. Most asylum seekers hail from Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Cuba.
